I love making soups and chili in the fall and winter. I am nearing day 30 of a no diary diet. It was hard at first, but I'm feeling fantastic and Greyson is too! As my research for delicious dishes has expanded. I came up with this healthy chili after a few trial and error runs.

Packed with antioxidants and flavor this chili will keep the sniffles at day.

1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro

2 cups stemmed and chopped rainbow or swiss chard

1 medium zucchini, cubed

1 bok choy, chopped

1 15-ounce can diced organic tomatoes

1 15-ounce can kidney beans, drained

2 tsp Worcestershire sauce

2 tsp tomato paste

2 cups chicken or vegetable broth

1 can french onion soup (I like progresso)

1 tsp salt

1/4 tsp group cinnamon

1/2 tsp group tummeric

1-2 tbsp chili powder (I like a little spice so I go for 2)

1 1/2 lb organic ground turkey (dark if you can find it)

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 tsp olive oil

Heat the garlic in olive oil for a few minutes. Add the turkey and cook for another five. Add the chili powder, tumeric, cinnamon, and salt and cook for 2 minutes.

In a separate pot simmer french onion soup, broth, tomato pate, and Worcestershire sauce. Add the beans, tomatoes, zucchini, bok choy, and carrots. Simmer for 15 minutes. Add the meat mixture, chard and cilantro let simmer 5 minutes. Serve warm.

Consider going Diary Free, I feel fantastic and you most likely will too. There are many ways to supplement calcium into your diet. My three favorite ways are;

1. Spinach

3. Unsweetened Almond milk

Fall dressing is all about layering. It's easy to get bogged down and appear rather frumpy when piling on luscious fall knits. A woven scarf is a great lightweight layering option. Monday October 10th kicks off international baby wearing week. Greyson is a huge fan of being carried, I mean what baby doesn't like to be held? Studies have concluded that babies worn in carriers cry 40% less than non carried babies. Greyson hardly cries so I would say it definitely has benefited our family. I strongly endorse the moby wrap great for newborns (must be 8lbs + before using which Greyson was at birth)

We graduated to the Ergo at around 4 months. I've walked over 2 miles with him in the Ergo and it is very supportive.

Fall uniform

If moving taught me anything it was I have too many clothes. Over the past few years I have been better about only purchasing key timeless items that I truly can't live without...when the budget allows for it. Being a mom hasn't changed my sense of style it's more just made my choices slightly more practical for my everyday activities.

Here are my favorite key pieces that I will be supplementing in my wardrobe rotation.

MacAlister boots with a manageable wedge. I'm crazy over the mink color...definitely more interesting then standard tan, but still classic and neutral.

I live in button downs, plaids, chambray, checks you name it. I throw one on when I want to quickly dress up a pair of sweats or tuck into high-waisted pants for a polished look. Easy access is key as I am a exclusively breastfeeding. Makes feeding on the fly a snap.

I swore once I was done being pregnant I would never wear sweatpants again. The truth is to actually have fun with your kid you have to get down with them and that means sometimes wearing a more comfortable option. The gold finishes really make this pair feel styled.

Each fall I choose a new scarf/wrap to complete my look and take it in a new direction. This year I'm digging this navaho inspired one the muted fall tones really enrich my mostly grey and denim wardrobe.

I am loving my new Lifefactory glass water bottle. It's great for the gym and I also use it a ton around the house. The company also has a line of baby bottles as well.

As much as I like to think that the yoga mats at my studio, or any studio in NYC are cleaned frequently the fact is they're probably not. I do have my own mat, but lugging it around with my giant baby belly is a pain. My new obsession is my yogitoes skidless blanket. It doesn't take up room in my bag and goes over the mat. This will also give me piece of mind when I'm doing mommy and me yoga and my infant has a clean surface to be laying on.

I've always been really bad about loosing my house key. In Elementary school my parents tied mine to a shoe lace I wore as a necklace (the lace was hot pink so I thought it was cool). I don't know what I do with them, but somehow every few months mine goes missing. I have been much better the last few years, but have misplaced several... Oops. Maybe if I had one of these nautical keychains I would be able to keep better track.

I really like the whistle, it reminds me of growing up playing outside. One of the families in our neighborhood would strike a cow bell when dinner was ready, it could be heard where all of us kids played. My brother and I would be gone for hours playing outside... too bad it isn't safe to do that anymore, we had a blast.

As fun has it's been watching the baby bump grow, I'm really looking forward to wearing normal clothes again.

Cotton shorts in modern red I have sooo many grey t-shirts and tops these will add a nice punch when I'm needing it.

The linen henley tank in every color! Love the functional buttons which will make nursing easier on the go.

Belts, and pants that have an actual waist........can not wait!! Flowy and blousy will not be in my vocab this summer.

Oh and these sandals because they are a great excuse to keep up on a polished pedi

The Nursery

Our goal with the nursery was to create a safe, happy, fun and organized place for Greyson to sleep and play. We also decided to go slightly gender neutral and pick items that he could grow with.

We opted for two rocking chairs, this smaller one for the nursery (urban outfitters $249) and a big comfy one for the living room (Monte modern designs)

Finding a simple, modern crib was one of our biggest challenges. We went for the Gulliver crib from Ikea, which has been ranked in the top 3 safest cribs for the past few years. The kicker...it was only $159.00

If you are planning a nursery I HIGHLY recommend purchasing The baby bargains book. Really sorts out what brands are the safest and best according to price. I was SHOCKED at how unsafe and poorly made some extremely popular brands are. The book also helped us create our registry and weed out many of the useless things that would just sit on shelves. We came in at least 50% less then the budget we had originally set to spend on preparing for the baby.

Easy dinner for two+ one growing baby

Ingredients

1 package gnocchi

fresh shrimp (peeled or not depending on how lazy you are) we wanted to do crab meat, but our grocer was out.

fresh parsley

pancetta (sub prosciutto if your deli doesn't have it)

1 egg

grated parmesan

splash of white wine

Directions

Boil water and cook gnocchi till it floats, around 7-8minutes

Warm shrimp by steaming in a skillet with water

Crisp panchetta in skillet similar to how you would cook bacon

Whisk egg, wine, parsley and parmesan in bowl

Add shrimp and pancetta to cooked gnocchi, quickly toss with egg mixture and serve.

Being preggie has left me with few options for transitional clothing. Now that I am nearing the end I really don't want to invest in any more maternity clothes.

The temperate is starting to get warmer and the feeling of spring fever is in the air. I'm very pleased with the Barbour winter parka I've been sporting since November, but as the bump increases I have the urge to dump it on the nearest corner.

I quickly learned a proper raincoat is necessary in New York. I'm loving these casual options for the upcoming wet months

Over Thanksgiving Kyle and I traveled to sunny Florida. The 85 degree weather really spoiled us. We did some shopping in town. I found some fantastic essentials at J.crew starting with this set of mini Essie polishes curated for J.crew. These little treats are sold out online, but many stores still have the set. I purchased two pairs of these contrast top camp socks to beat the winter chill

Among our new news, starting a new job and having a horrible time with morning (aka all day sickness) I had no energy to be creative. I love the idea of items and brands being exclusive and hard to acquire. Most high end designers set themselves apart by their soaring price tags. I have my top three favorite designers because choosing just one is hard depending on the season, item etc. Lanvin has been in my top three for years and I have tremendous respect for the brand. Imagine my delight when I heard a Lanvin boutique was opening on Madison ave. Although I don't own anything from the brand...yet I have drawn countless inspiration for previous design work as well as choosing wise trends for my own wardrobe.

What is it about Lanvin that makes me swoon? In a nutshell it's these three things

1. Outstanding color choice

2. Wearable rich fabrics

3. The fit that merges sex appeal with pure feminine charm

I could do some serious damage at Sephora, I don't wear a lot of makeup but I love getting new products.

My biggest weakness is mascara that promises to make my lashes fuller and longer. I purchased Fiberwig "paint on false lashes" I'm not completely sold yet, but the girls at work said I didn't put enough on. $24.00

Smith's Rosebud Slave is a great classic for me with a slight bit of color. I hate lip gloss and the gross wet look it gives. I'm super excited that the 1892 lip salve now comes in a tube. $6.00

Finding the right hairspray is never an easy task I'm trying out a travel size (perfect for the gym bag) canister of Living proof--Flexible hold, humidity blocking, style protecting, shine popping hairspray. It also smells very pleasant. $14.00

Sometimes I wish I "Practiced what I preached" more. I have full blown been buying breakfast and lunch plus beverages everyday for the last couple of weeks. Today I bought a 13.00 lunch at Pret and although it's delicious this spending habit is getting out of hand. I'm vowing to bring my lunch the next two weeks and cut back on what I purchase for breakfast. Anyone else with me?

When I posted this I was working from home making my plan of eating cheap a lot easier. I need to follow my own rules and would love to figure out how much money I save in the process and put it to good use.

Fine so I may be known to exaggerate a little, but can I please explain to you how obsessed I am with my new wallet. I first spotted the navy one my boss carries and have been on the search every since. After asking her about it I discovered it was purchased at Castor & Pollux in the west village, NYC. Naturally I went two days later and got my own--a slate grey with gold hardware version. My life has become more simple and organized.

Kyle and I have been on the search for a small energy star refrigerator for our tiny Brooklyn kitchen. Since we shop twice a week for groceries having a smaller fridge then the current one was really an ideal situation for us. I was actually really surprised how hard it was to find a nice looking stainless steel model that was in our budget that would fit our space. After scouring the internet I came across this article on Apartment therapy that lead to the end of our search.

The new fridge is being delivered today! The old one is being taken to the basement and the basement fridge is being hauled away! Luckily we have an awesome Super who will be coordinating the whole exchange. I can't wait to have a little more space in the kitchen even if it's only a few inches!

I get really excited when we make little updates to our home! It's so fun, but also makes me feel kind of old at times :P

I want a bike

There is a awesome used bike shop on our street it's somewhat of a hipster hang out. when I walk penny she gravitates to the group of bikers as they all give her a good petting. She also has been known to grab the tire caps when no one is looking gulping them down in a one two chomp swallow. Kyle and I have nosed around and the used bikes are anywhere from 200-500. Really? Am I crazy or if that really expensive for a used bike that's not in great condition? If I'm going to have to shell out that kind of doe I rather get a brand new one from Adeline Adeline in Tribeca. The website alone makes me drool and I've steered clear of the actual store as I'm afraid I would purchase one on the spot. I think having a bike in Brooklyn would make life easier so perhaps it's worth the investment. Here is the one I like the most, however there are more affordable options I would be pleased with.

Obviously a wicker basket is a must as well.

Yikes! I have been Mia longer then I thought. My parents had a great visit and I have been soaking up summer as it's blazing by. My adorable parents are visiting Kyle and will be here for a week! We are so excited to have them and be the first to stay in our newly completed guest room. The reason for their visit is the celebration of their 40th wedding anniversary. Isn't that just the cutest thing you have ever heard? June always makes me think of my parents because of their wedding anniversary and how common it is to have weddings during this month. I love this Jackie O inspired wedding shift dress, I think it would be fantastic for eloping in Paris. My mom carried Yellow Roses and her bridesmaids wore Lavender. ...and I have to admit I don't totally hate it. That being said I really think you need to have a specific body type to wear these. Not that you have to be stick thin by any means... but skin tight biker shorts aren't going to work for everyone.

Wanting to sport this trend and wondering if your shirt is long enough? A good rule of thumb is one that almost covers your butt. The silhouette should be a shift/column for the most flattering rendition of this look.

Uniforms

What are your thoughts on uniforms? Not the type of uniforms that are worn for public service, but school uniforms and everyday uniforms worn by people as a choice.

I went to public school so I wasn’t required to wear a uniform; my niece will be starting kindergarten in the fall and is required to wear one. I think this is a great idea, as it doesn’t put added pressure on kids to have the latest trends. I think uniforms help more kids fit in. I loved picking out my outfits for school but in the bigger picture of things I think more schools should go the uniform route.

I like the idea for a uniform in your everyday wardrobe. Everyone has a certain look that is amazing on him or her so why not just recreate it everyday? The uniform project did just this. With the projects wide success they teamed up with Daily Candy and Bright Young Things to offer the dress featured in the project for sale. Would you take the challenge? I don't know anyone who likes to be sick, but when it comes to me I am not a good patient (just ask Kyle). I hate it when things slow me down and being sick always seems to strike when I have the best of plans. Ever since I traveled back to New York last Sunday my sinuses have been against me. One thing that has been somewhat of a saving grace is my discovery of the Netti Pot. Have you heard and tried it? Completely natural and has given me more relief then the medicine I am taking.

What I would love to do is just curl up in bed and sleep till it goes away. I would love these adorable sweats to get me through...shopping is always a mood booster right?

I have a dislike for outfits that are too matchy-match. I tend to stick to colors and silhouettes that work for me and blend my wardrobe from the variety of stores I shop at. Very rarely will I buy an outfit that coordinates head to toe. J.crew is one of the rare companies that not only is amazing at coordinating current collections but also transitioning color palates from season to season.

Why didn't you say something sooner? My favorite thing about most activities is the outfit that goes along with it. I would have signed up for a trip to the wildness a lot sooner if I would have had this killer bag to tote around.

P.S the last time I went camping was a float trip in college. I was convinced to come along because a shower would be available. What I soon came to realize was the shower was a make shift telephone booth that charged 25 cents for 1 minute increments of ice cold water sprayed at you. I say with great pleasure this was my last time overnight in the great outdoors.

Just because you want to wear lounge clothes doesn't mean you need to dress like a total slob. After a week of fitted work clothes and sky high heels I am all about comfort on the weekends. Last weekend I practically lived in these shorts.

I also purshashed this bright pink cardi to punch up my basic blacks for summer. I love it to complete my comfy weekend outfit.

Oh and unless your going to a pool or beach please don't wear flip flops. Purchase a comfortable pair of sandals they will unify your outfit and make you look more pulled together.

I have a hard time spending money on things I can't hold onto. Kyle's mom sent me a Sephora gift certificate for my birthday and it's one of my favorite things to get. I LOVE products especially when I don't feel guilty splurging on them. With my gift card I bought this yummy smelling Bliss body scrub among a few other things. Every Sunday night I use it as a weekly treat, this is my way of having the jar last as long as possible. It makes my skin so buttery soft I have made it my Sunday evening ritual.

In case you missed what we were up to this weekend

I don't want to show full room views until all the furniture is in. However I am dying to show you a preview! With Kyle's help we buzzed through getting the room painted and absolutely love how it turned out. It's quickly becoming my favorite room in the house. I can't wait to get all the details we want and for it all to come together. On Friday morning our King size mattress was delivered and last night was our first night sleeping on it. I felt like I was the only one in in the bed and had the best night sleep. Kyle and Penny loved it too we all slept in way later then we usually do.

This picture is from the first day of painting before Kyle got home from work! He was impressed with how much I did on my own. He finished the high parts and we conquered the second coat together.

Kyle and I stumbled upon the coolest store in South Williamsburg. Brook Farm General Store sells classic home staples and high quality vintage finds. Their wasn't a single item I didn't want to purchase. We left empty handed, but have our eye on a list of things.. topping the list? Side table lamp, quilt, travel bag, hand made broom, and an Ice cream scoop.

Master Bedroom project

I am thrilled to have a four day weekend! Kyle and I are taking the next step in making our home even more homey. The master bedroom has been agonized over for nearly six months. The problem is I have too many ideas and many of them come with a high price tag. We are taking the baby steps approach. The king size mattress is order and en route for delivery (thank GOD) a Queen was just not working for Penny, myself of 6.5ft Kyle. We agreed on painting the walls a luxe grey and I am very motivated to get it completed this weekend. Now that it's 91 degrees I'm slightly regretting the choice to cut my bangs. Luckily they are at the point where I can wear my hair in a top knot. At first I felt like I looked as if I where heading to the gym, now I am thrilled to be sporting this low maintenance style on the steamy days of summer. The only thing I don't like about work is I miss Penny so much. I'm really curious as to what she does during the day without me! I was used to being with her all day...sometimes she drove me crazy when I was trying to work on projects. Happy Friday lovelies...everyone has been complaining this has been the longest week ever. Maybe it was the chilly fall like weather we experienced. I was miserable with allergies/sinus infection at the beginning of the week and feel like I am finally on my road to recovery. I seriously went to bed at 8pm all week!

My GF and I are meeting for brunch tomorrow and a little shopping.

I am on the hunt for a nice set of sheets for the guest room. My parents are coming to visit the last week in June and we are hoping to move our queen size bed into the room by then and upgrade to a King for our room. I Love these sheets from West Elm and think they would look lovely in the yellow room.

One of my other friends is getting a facial this weekend. I've never gotten one...I'm kind of scared I will look like this, my skin is so sensitive, but I am dying to try it out!

Any summer travel plans? I am seriously getting the itch... the only thing we have planned is a quick trip in June to visit our families. I'm think beach in the fall when it starts getting chilly here

Mother's day always sneaks up on me. Winter seems to drag on for months and then before I know it it's May. I was born the sunday before mothers day so I might as well just go out on a limb and say it was the best mothers day my mom ever had...

Some girls are girlie girls from the moment they are born. I was organizing my closet and picking out outfits before I even entered pre-school. I didn't have a ton of Barbies, but I did have two or three I loved playing with. I've always loved the idea of a designer making dolls in miniature designer outfits for girls to play with. I don't think it sends a bad message fashion is FUN, it's not meant to be so serious. When I came across these Christian Louboutin Barbies I almost died! Children are becoming aware of brands at younger ages then my generation. My five year old niece is bound to find out about Louboutins sooner or later. I vote sooner.

Transplants that come to New York like myself look for the largest amount of living space in the area they wish to reside. I am always giving shout out's to the neighborhoods I have lived in Brooklyn, Williamsburg and Greenpoint. I can't help but share some of the cool and unknown finds of these great neighborhood a stones throw from Manhattan.

This couple featured on Apartment therapy wouldn't budge when it came to finding a large space in Williamsburg. They took on the task of converting an old and I assume smelly garage into an awesome home. Check out these photos.

When we were in college Kyle would go over to his friend's house who lived with his girlfriend. They created their own man space in the garage outfitted with a couch, fridge an old TV etc. They called it the lodge and still talk about it today.

There is something kind of fun about creating a living space in an unexpected area... it's like a tree house or building a fort when you're a kid.

I recently was at the ACE hotel and some of the rooms contain SMEG fridges. SMEG products are modernly functional with vintage aesthetics. I would love to re-do our kitchen and get one of these gems, I like the silver or pale green. Check out these kitchens from apartment therapy that are ahead of the trend.

I like the size of them as well. I never understand how people fill those jumbo fridges anyway. We usually grocery shop once a week and still have plenty of room. Maybe I will change my tune when there is more then just two of us.

Happy Friday! I know I have been MIA the last couple days, but the good news is I was busy pulling off a fun and exciting event at work.

I have been running around in my heels so my first order of business is a serious Mani/Pedi when I leave the office today. It's no secret that I am a total ESSIE addict. I am dying to try one of these new colors for resort. I am really loving the lapis of luxary would you wear this on your nails or do you think it's too bold?

Vegetable, Gym, Water repeat. The amounts of delish food, treats and alcohol consumed after the last few days really needs to be flushed from my system. I really need some new tunes to get my motivated... I plan on looking this list over for ideas.

I am also going to a bridal shower tomorrow morning. I love getting together with the girls and chatting about all things wedding! These are the dishes she is registered for, aren't they so summery and cute!?

April Showers bring Burberry power

The best thing about spring rain showers are the variety of amazing jackets I see. I am a big fan of Burberry and the amazing attention to detail and quality of their timeless jackets. When the Art of the Trench project was launched my jaw dropped and I couldn't stop staring. I could spend hours looking at the many submitted photos.

The rain didn't stop us from having fun on Saturday

We tried a new brunch spot on Saturday afternoon in Fort Greene Brooklyn. No. 7 is known for having an interesting menu for the adventurous palate. My dish was one of my favorite brunches I've had in New York and my cocktail was so strong that I couldn't drink more then one.We started with a Cinnamon roll with chocolate chips, topped with vanilla bean butter cream icing and honey butter on the side. This creation put our meal off to a good start to say the least.

Next a lavender lemon brunch cocktail that nearly knocked my socks off. It tasted refreshing, crisp and then all of a sudden things seemed a little hazy leaving me at a one drink limit.

Kyle ordered the scrambled eggs, the dish came with seaweed pico de gallo, sliced Parmesan, yuzu cream and little tortillas.

My dish was the butternut grits, with broccoli, mushrooms,swiss, fried hominy and a poached egg.

How do you feel about the I-PAD? It's been out for about two weeks now...do you know anyone who has bought one?

I still can't put down my i-phone! I know it's gotten some slack but I still think the I-PAD is pretty sweet. A lot of people are waiting for generation 2. I would mostly use it just to look at blogs, websites, online magazines and check my e-mail/Facebook. I don't see what more I would need. If I wanted to do something more complicated I would just use my actual computer.

My hair grows like a weed! I can't complain as it gives me the freedom to change it often. It was getting way too long and I couldn't stomach the amount of time it took to blow dry in the morning. My favorite hair stylist chopped off a few inches and gave me some bangs. I am loving my fresh new do and I can't wait to play around with it this weekend.

The best idea ever...

You know how you never have a place to put your bag besides the floor? My friend just went to Paris and brought me back this contractible hook to hang mine from the tables. Brilliant and so useful I have already used it so many times.

Every six weeks or so local foodies and crafters (mostly foodies) gather in the basement of Church of the Messiah Lutheran to offer some unique treats. If I would have known about the many free samples I would have skipped brunch. The only thing I regret is not purchasing the Key Lime pie with smoked sea salt jam that I tasted. Need a lift after a long week?

Many promise to lift and separate but do any really live up to their promise?

I think most ladies have their favorite go-to bras that we wear most days, fancy bras for special occasions, and dreaded strapless bras along with other frightening contraptions we subject ourselves to.

As we know no two pair are alike so sometimes the hunt for the perfect fit can leave you feeling defeated and quick frankly deflated.

I went through a major purge and threw out every bra I owned except for 3! Nothing seemed to be fitting right and I didn’t know what was going on. Once I was properly fitted I realized I had my sizing all wrong.

This is the new bra I swear by, not only is it comfortable but it doesn’t look completely dorky like most t-shirt bra do.

What brands and bras do you swear by? I am still on the search for the perfect strapless, haven’t quite nailed it yet.

Oh and if you’re in PARIS hit the small local lingerie stores. I found so many adorable chic and sexy bras that were beyond affordable.

I am also intrigued by the new LOVE magazine very inspiring with some fresh ideas. The last issue was about iconic models that chat about hang-ups and pose completely nude.When you see these images it’s hard to image they have hang ups, but very inspiring to see the brave bold statement these women are making.

Oh and then there is this girl...

A friend and I are going panty and bra shopping on Saturday. I like to stock up around x-mas and the beginning of spring. I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Tattoos... Love them or hate them

The weather is getting warmer and that means that tattoos have been under wraps for months now. As I was walking home from the Subway last night I saw some pretty rad ink. Williamsburg is kind of Hipster nation, but honestly I love it. I love the artist vibe and the fresh ink on 20 something kids trying to make something out of themselves. Getting a tattoo is a big deal in the sense it’s going to be there forever. I have a few, and most where not agonized over for that long. One of my best assets is I am decisive I can make decisions quick and not fret over them later. Here are some of my tats mixed in with others I thought where pretty cool!

I do find it interesting that some people think tattoos are horrible or wrong or simply dislike them. I suppose it depends on the person. What is your opinion on tattoos?

Bird House love

Ok I already have a love for bird houses, maybe it's because every house I grew up in backed up to a wooded area. We had a few bird houses and even a bird bath! I am obsessed with this To Kill a Mocking Bird bird house, made out of the actual book! You obviously wouldn't want put this outside but I think it would be darling in an office or study.
