healthy, healing chili

I love making soups and chili in the fall and winter. I am nearing day 30 of a no diary diet. It was hard at first, but I'm feeling fantastic and Greyson is too! As my research for delicious dishes has expanded. I came up with this healthy chili after a few trial and error runs.

Packed with antioxidants and flavor this chili will keep the sniffles at day.

1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
2 cups stemmed and chopped rainbow or swiss chard
1 medium zucchini, cubed
1 bok choy, chopped
1 15-ounce can diced organic tomatoes
1 15-ounce can kidney beans, drained
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp tomato paste
2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
1 can french onion soup (I like progresso)
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp group cinnamon
1/2 tsp group tummeric
1-2 tbsp chili powder (I like a little spice so I go for 2)
1 1/2 lb organic ground turkey (dark if you can find it)
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp olive oil

Heat the garlic in olive oil for a few minutes. Add the turkey and cook for another five. Add the chili powder, tumeric, cinnamon, and salt and cook for 2 minutes.

In a separate pot simmer french onion soup, broth, tomato pate, and Worcestershire sauce. Add the beans, tomatoes, zucchini, bok choy, and carrots. Simmer for 15 minutes. Add the meat mixture, chard and cilantro let simmer 5 minutes. Serve warm.

Consider going Diary Free, I feel fantastic and you most likely will too. There are many ways to supplement calcium into your diet. My three favorite ways are;

1. Spinach
2. Ground Sesame seeds into a smoothie
3. Unsweetened Almond milk

Duck, Duck, Goose

The appeal of anything waterproof multiplies when you have a baby. I'm looking for a somewhat stylish shoe that is waterproof and not a wellie. I love my Hunter Wellingtons, but I can't stand clomping all over town in them from December-March. The ankle ones are my fav, but probably not practical...

Punching up fall

Fall dressing is all about layering. It's easy to get bogged down and appear rather frumpy when piling on luscious fall knits. A woven scarf is a great lightweight layering option. I'm completely in love with lemlem. I discovered the brand through their partnership with J.crew this past spring. I'm still crazy about the blue and orange one I purchased, but find the selection on the brands actual site appealing.

Adventures in babywearing

Monday October 10th kicks off international baby wearing week. Greyson is a huge fan of being carried, I mean what baby doesn't like to be held? Studies have concluded that babies worn in carriers cry 40% less than non carried babies. Greyson hardly cries so I would say it definitely has benefited our family. I strongly endorse the moby wrap great for newborns (must be 8lbs + before using which Greyson was at birth)

We graduated to the Ergo at around 4 months. I've walked over 2 miles with him in the Ergo and it is very supportive.

Fall uniform

If moving taught me anything it was I have too many clothes. Over the past few years I have been better about only purchasing key timeless items that I truly can't live without...when the budget allows for it. Being a mom hasn't changed my sense of style it's more just made my choices slightly more practical for my everyday activities.

Here are my favorite key pieces that I will be supplementing in my wardrobe rotation.

MacAlister boots with a manageable wedge. I'm crazy over the mink color...definitely more interesting then standard tan, but still classic and neutral.

I live in button downs, plaids, chambray, checks you name it. I throw one on when I want to quickly dress up a pair of sweats or tuck into high-waisted pants for a polished look. Easy access is key as I am a exclusively breastfeeding. Makes feeding on the fly a snap.

I swore once I was done being pregnant I would never wear sweatpants again. The truth is to actually have fun with your kid you have to get down with them and that means sometimes wearing a more comfortable option. The gold finishes really make this pair feel styled.

Each fall I choose a new scarf/wrap to complete my look and take it in a new direction. This year I'm digging this navaho inspired one the muted fall tones really enrich my mostly grey and denim wardrobe.
